Thanks for coming to my site, kicking back, and enjoying a cold six while you catch up on all the reasons why I’m great. I have a couple of good things coming up.
First off, I’m in a crackerjack production of Tennessee Williams Cat On A Hot Tin Roof in San Leandro, CA. That goes up September 29th and runs until October 28th. Performances are at 8PM on Saturday and 2PM on Sunday. I’ll playing Gooper, Brick’s scheming brother.
I also just found out last night that my short play Minutiae is part of Pan Theatre’s Anything Can Happen in Ten Minutes Festival here in Oakland. The play focuses on two bacteria fighting over some ocean floor billions of years ago. It should be pretty wild. Come check it out, it runs October 12th, 13th, 19th, and 20th. Tickets can be found here!
Anything Can Happen in Ten Minutes! Literally, Anything!
Annnnnnnd…new things are underway for me in the Washington, D.C. area. Stay tuned!!!
I’m trying to make some kick-a updates to the ol’ BarryEitel.com, many of which focus on Flesh, my latest project. We got postcards printed, a venue (the ubercool Motiv), some great actors, and a wicked script. It’s been a very challenging project and I’ve been learning a bucket-load about producing, but I think the finished product will be frickin’ awesome (a show about flesh-eating bacteria, and you can drink through the whole thing!).
Get some tickets and come down to lovely Santa Cruz. You won’t be sorry. I might even buy you a drink.
Last week, I had an awesome photo shoot with the lovely Rebecca Stark (and make-up by the ever-thoughtful Eileen Tull) where we nailed the promo shots for Flesh, my entry in the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival. The show is going up at least five times in mid-July. I’m in the process of writing the play, and will also star alongside some other talented actors. Flesh will be directed by Eileen Tull.
No, it isn’t about zombies. Yes, it is about flesh-eating bacteria. And yes, it will be set at a real bar where the audience can drink (and cry into) beers and cocktails. We’re in contact with several Santa Cruz bars, but if you have a place (or know of one), hit me up on the contact page and we’ll talk.
More details to come. This is so friggin’ exciting. And, by the way, Santa Cruz is pretty awesome.
So I recently wrote a blog post for the official SLP “Pride and Prejudice” blog that is basically some Jane Austin fan fiction. I know there are people that are nutbars for stuff like that, so check it out here. And if you aren’t a crazy Austaholic, check it out anyway, cuz it is pretty good.
Also, come check out the show, Saturdays and Sundays until May 13th. It’s like 15 bucks if you say Facebook or some sniz.
Hello, Barry Eitel fans. I just wanted to give you a heads up about the latest project I’m working on, San Leandro Player’s 40s-era production of ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ I play all-around nice guy Charles Bingley (the one that marries Jane, in case you haven’t seen the movie in awhile…..). It opens Saturday.
If you are an East Bay Austen fan, you owe it to yourself to check it out. For seriously. More information can be found here.
Have a good Tuesday. Oh yeah, I also met with former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm today and talked about Michigan, the economy and jobs. I’m trying to formulate some play ideas, so if you are in Michigan and looking to collaborate, hit me up (check out the ‘Contact Me’ page). Do it even if you aren’t in Michigan. I love you.
For anyone who has been following my writing career since the beginning (i.e. me, maybe my mom….and that’s about it), there were some exciting developments last week. I covered a big advertising and technology conference in San Francisco called ad:tech for AllVoices.com, a citizen-journalist rag thing.
Anyhoo, it was a ton of fun and I would like to think I did a good job. I saw some mind-blowing stuff, like augmented reality and HTML5. It also drove me to join Cowbird (a flash fiction community, sort of), Turntable.fm (an online night club) and Pinterest (I know what a Pinterest is now). Look for updates later on how to find me on all those things.
Congrats and several thousand thank you’s to FABUM, Inc. and the Dolce Revolution Project for producing my one-act play “Lemons.” It was a blast chilling around DC, speaking to the consul for the British Virgin Islands, and eating at the place where all the congressmen take their mistresses.
Also, my ten minute play “The Algorithm” went up at Bellarmine University to much aplomb. And I recently found out I got accepted to the Santa Cruz Fringe with my site specific play “Flesh.” Yes, it is as sexy as it sounds.
And now I’m working on covering ad:tech San Francsico for AllVoices.com. It’s gonna be nuts. Lots of crazy tech stuff. Glimpses into the future. THE WORLD IS CHANGING!!!
Tomorrow is the world premier of my play Lemons, the first full production of any of my longer plays. The good people at FABUM, Inc. (For A Better Understanding of Mankind, in case you didn’t know) are producing the show, paying me, and flying me across the country to Washington, D.C. to see the show and maybe say a few interesting words. It is really an awesome opportunity and, hopefully, one that I get many times more. I have to be at the San Jose airport at around 5 AM and arrive in DC at 6, where I’ll be whisked to the premier. I will have to have lots of coffee. And maybe a few drinks on the plane to get my mind lubricated. And also the Mad Men season 5 opener cued up on the iPad. And my toothbrush. I guess I really don’t have time to keep writing this…………….
